Shirley Ann Werner's Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley Ann Hastings Werner of North Ridgeville, OH. She passed away peacefully on March 11, 2023 at her home surrounded by
family. She was 92. Shirley was born on December 15, 1930 in Pittsburgh, PA to John and Marie Hastings. She graduated from David B. Oliver High School in 1949 and went on to attend the University of Pittsburgh. After raising seven children, Shirley went back to work, was trained at IBM as a computer programmer, and became the Director of Information Services at the National Association of College Stores in Oberlin, OH. In 1951, she married Don Werner. They lived in Pennsylvania and West Virginia before eventually settling in North Ridgeville, OH, with their seven children. There, they became deeply established members of the community and the local St. Peter Parish. They also enjoyed exciting travels to Alaska, Kenya, and various countries in Europe over the years. Shirley loved birds, the color blue, warm blankets, and spending time with family. She was
known for her warm heart, sense of humor, generosity, and devotion to her family. A dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, she will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives she touched.
Shirley is survived by her devoted husband of 72 years, William “Don” Werner; daughter, Lynne Werner and her husband David Olsho; daughter Nancy Werner and her husband Roger Risch; son Donald Werner and his wife Carole Werner; son Scott Werner and his wife Grace Werner; daughter Beth Werner-Smith and her husband Dan Smith; daughter Kathy Werner and her fiancé Ed Wielgus; son Jeff Werner and his wife Patty Werner; brother John Hastings; grandchildren Lauren, Alexis, Sean, Ryan, Megan, Kim, Morgan, Max, Samantha, Taylor, Alexa, Allison, Molly, Bradley, Mary Beth, Rachel, Lydia, Abi, and Josiah; and great-grandchildren
Emma, Charles Jr., Sidney, Daisy, Willa, Levi, Ivy, Mara, Sutton, Oliver, Theodore, Mia, and Lily. She was preceded in death by her father John Hastings, mother Marie Hastings and brother James Hastings. Family will receive friends in the Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Rd., N. Ridgeville, on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. and on Friday at 12:00 noon for a prayer service preceding a 12:30 Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter Church, 35777 Center Ridge Rd., N. Ridgeville. Rev. Bob Franco will officiate. Interment will be in St. Peter Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers please contribute to St. Peter Parish “Building on the Rock” Capital Campaign in Shirley’s name.
