Roberta M. Alten's Obituary
Roberta M. Alten (nee Wilson) passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at Vitalia Adult Community in North Olmsted. She was born in Harrisville, WV and had lived in Avon most of her adult life until moving to North Ridgeville nearly 17 years ago. Roberta was a graduate of North Ridgeville High School and received a bachelor’s in education from Baldwin Wallace. She worked as an elementary school teacher for Elyria City Schools for 19 years, before retiring in 2000. Roberta was a member of Fields United Methodist Church and a past parishioner of Avon Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and played the bells for many years. In her free time, she enjoyed spending time with her family and was especially fond of her many grandchildren. Roberta enjoyed singing barbershop music and was a 25yr member of the Sweet Adelines in Elyria where she sang tenor. She also sang professionally with the Harmony Express quartet, where she participated in national barbershop competitions and performed at many shows. She enjoyed sewing projects and was an expert quilter and was a member of local quilting groups.
Roberta is survived by children: Teresa Alten of North Ridgeville, Kevin (Brenda) Alten of Bath, Debora (Kurt) Eckert of Sheffield Village, Brad (Karen) Alten of Columbia Station, Sandra (Harold) Maddock of Columbia Station, Melissa (Brent) Bartlett of Copley, and stepchildren: Cheryn (Tom) Houston of Dublin and James Alten of Avon Lake; 15 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Roberta is also survived by siblings: Dennis (Shirley) of Cincinnati, Betty of Washington D.C., and James (Brenda) of North Ridgeville.
She was preceded in death by her husband Sylvester (Jim) and parents Shirley and Geraldine (nee Elder) Wilson.
Memorial Service on Sunday, March 12, 2023, in the Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Rd., N. Ridgeville where family will receive friends from 1pm until time of service at 3pm.
Rev. Dr. Tom Joyce will officiate.
