Richard R. Schartman Sr.'s Obituary
Richard R. Schartman Sr., age 79, of North Ridgeville, passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Specialty Hospital in Amherst after a short illness.
He was born on February 18, 1938 in Cleveland and has been a lifelong resident of North Ridgeville. He served in the Army National Guard 357 Ordnance Company and went on to become a 50-year Life Member of Local 18 Operating Engineers, working for C.P. Gilgenbach, Joseph Lach, S.W. Franks, and his own company, R & R Excavating. He was also a grain farmer.
Throughout his life, Richard enjoyed music, and played the Melody Grove Ballroom in the Toppers dance band for 6 years. He also enjoyed restoring old tractors with his brother Jack.
He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Nancy (nee Stobe); son Richard R. Jr. of Connecticut; daughters Karen (Tim) Runyon of North Carolina and Rita Renee (Ed) Houska of Mt. Vernon, OH; grandsons Kyle (Krista) Runyon and Jacob (Emily) Runyon; great grandsons Judah and Elias Runyon; brother John “Jack” Schartman of Wellington; several nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Raymond John and Rita Ann (nee Gilgenbach) Schartman; sister Anita (Roth) Howard; brother Raymond John Schartman.
Funeral Services Saturday, April 1 at 11:30 a.m. in the Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Rd., N. Ridgeville where Family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Rev. David Woolsey will officiate. Interment will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
