Gordon Edward Schmid's Obituary
Gordon Edward Schmid, age 82, of North Ridgeville, passed away peacefully on Friday January 23, 2026 at the Hospice of the Western Reserve in Westlake.
He was born on December 25, 1943 in Cleveland, Ohio and lived in North Ridgeville for the past 24 years, moving from Brooklyn.
Gordon served in the United States Navy from, 1962 to 1964 after four years of enlisted service. He was stationed in Adak, Alaska and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. After receiving his discharge papers, he then served honorably in the Naval Reserves and was promoted through the ranks as Lieutenant Commander, he was the Commanding Officer of two units. Gordon graduated from Cleveland State University in 1970 with a Bachelor of Business in Accounting.
His career started at the Internal Revenue Service first as a Revenue Agent and Reviewer before being promoted to the Appeals Office in 1978. He attended Cleveland State University Marshall College of Law at night graduating in 1976 and becoming a member of the Ohio Bar.
He earned a C.P.A. in July of 1994. He then retired from the IRS in 1995 and began a private practice in Tax Law and Accounting.
Gordon was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association for Branch 17, Naval Reserve Association, Naval Cryptologic Association, Masonic Quarry Lodge 382, The Cleveland Grays, Cleveland Tax Club and the Navy League. He enjoyed swimming, exercise, was an avid reader and loved spending time with his sweet shelter dog Bob. Vacations in Pensacola, Florida after tax season was always a favorite.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 37 years, Elizabeth (nee Pasek), daughters Robin (Jason) Skrant of New Jersey, Ginger (David) Putman of Broadview Heights., grandchildren, Brandon, Cassandra, Desiree Skrant, Cora, Logan and Aisley Putman, former wife, Eileen M. Schmid, sisters, Beverly Jacobs and Bonnie (Rick) Siska.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon A. and Ruth A. (Steinbrenner) Schmid, brother- in-law, Ron Jacobs.
Interment with full military honors will be on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at 1:15 p.m. at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Road, Seville, OH 44273. Please meet at the cemetery at 1:00 p.m.
