Dewey Delmar Carey's Obituary
Dewey Delmar Carey, age 83, of Columbia Station, passed away on May 28, 2015 at the University Hospital Elyria Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
He was born on April 10, 1932 in Clinchport, Virginia and has been a resident of Columbia Station for the past 38 years, moving from Lagrange. Dewey served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Coral Sea during the Korean War and went on to work as a machine operator for the Ford Motor Company, retiring in 1995. He attended the Island Road Free Will Baptist Church in Grafton for the past 21 years, where he was baptized in 1994.
He was always very outgoing and talkative, a man who truly never knew a stranger. He loved working in his garden, and could be found there throughout the summer months. When not working in the garden, he enjoyed Cleveland sports teams, particularly the Indians and Cavs. Dewey was also an avid golfer, and worked at Creekwood Golf Course for many years following his retirement. In his younger years, he coached in the Hot Stove Baseball League. More than anything else, Dewey enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Minnie Lou (nee Barbour); son Eddie (Connie) Carey of Louisville, KY, daughter Teresa (Rick) Anderson of Columbia Station and Danny (Audrey) Carey of Eaton Twp.; son in law Jim Meade; grandchildren Brooke (Tim) Couch of KY, Justin (Jessica) Carey of Avon Lake, Inez (Mike) Quintiliano of Grafton and Sean (Hannah) Carey of Cuyahoga Falls; great grandchildren Dakota, Destiny, James and Cooper; sisters Linda Conley and Shirley Cassell; many nieces and nephews.
