When I think of Dennis, the words that spring instantly to mind are: kind, caring, loyal, funny, generous, charming, intellectual, dependable. He loved the Beatles, and had an amazing knowledge of their music, including their chords and instruments. Used to kid him that he looked a bit like Ringo, which I think he appreciated.
He was very knowledgeable about politics and current events, and if there was a conservative speaker in town you would expect to see him at the event. Had planned to see him at Republican Central Committee meetings, as he had been made a precinct captain recently.
He was our office manager back in the Buckingham Doolittle days, and was our wall against the interference and the unreasonable demands of the home office--who thought his email replies to their requests were "too militaristic" and which we thought were simply funny. At one point he resigned, and we had a going away party for him and give him a great Beatles poster. A month later he came back. We inquired, gently, as to whether he thought that he should return the poster (we didn't mean it, just giving him a hard time), but he was not inclined to, so we let it go! Over the years we would remind him of this, for a good laugh all round.
Saw him frequently, as his office was in the same building as mine. He always had an interesting comment or observation about something.
So hard to take in that he is gone from this world and is now on another journey.
So long, old friend.
