Dear Roger, Carlina, Alicia and family, please accept my deepest sympathies at the passing of Carmen. Our friendship, however brief, goes way back to the early 1980's when our daughters Alicia and Melissa were students of UCPA's Children's Center. Even though our journey changed over time, those early days nurtured a special bond. It was as if we were kindred spirits trying to understand our 'unique mothering roles' and navigate through life not with perfection but with excellence and committed love for our family. I've thought of those days many times. I will always remember Carmen as a gentle, yet very strong, loving person with selfless genuine compassion for those whose lives she touched. I know that God will bless you with many beautiful memories and a warmth in your heart for His continual love.

The first word that comes to mind when I think of your mom is "classy". She carried herself with such grace and dignity, even when life became overwhelming. Thank you so much for sharing her with me when she came to visit Cleveland. Her smile and laugh, especially with the kids, will always be a sweet, sweet memory. Take comfort in knowing that she loved you all and was so very proud to be your mom.
