Bill Williams

William A. “Bill” Williams, a loving husband, cherished brother, and loyal friend, went home to be with his Savior on December 22, 2025, surrounded by love Bill was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, the son of the late Ralph F. Williams and Sue Carolyn Benge, stepson of Robert Benge. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ralph Williams Jr. Bill’s greatest blessing was his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Cynthia, whose constant care and devotion meant more to him than words could express; Sophia his service animal whom he dearly loved, his sister, Julie Helms of Indian Trail, North Carolina; and his brothers, Barry, Brian, and Rick (Hillary) Williams. He is also lovingly remembered by his uncle, Julius (Judy) Spears; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews who will forever carry his memory in their hearts. Bill grew up in Locust, North Carolina, and accepted Christ at the age of 13 while attending Friendship Baptist Church, where he was active in many church activities and remained in contact with friends throughout his life. He graduated from West Stanly High School in Oakboro and later attended Bible college in northwest Indiana, where he made many lifelong friends. Driven by a lifelong passion for weather, Bill pursued his dream of becoming a meteorologist by joining the United States Navy. He completed boot camp in San Diego, California, and was stationed in Rota, Spain, where he traveled throughout the Mediterranean including France, Italy, Spain, England, and many other ports. He later returned to Glenview Air Station near Chicago to complete meteorology school, then served his final three years at Barbers Point, Hawaii, as a meteorologist. Bill completed ten years of honorable service to the Navy in November 1990. After his military service, Bill worked as a radio meteorologist for WMAQ Radio in Chicago. In 1998, he joined NOAA and moved to Bethel, Alaska, where he served as a meteorologist for 16 years before retiring in 2014. During his final week, Bill reflected on his life, saying, “God has given me a great life. I got to have the career I dreamed of, traveled the world, have many lifelong friends and family, and a great doggie. I have had everything I could need or want.” Bill passed away peacefully with his wife by his side.
