Wilfred "Bill" B. Marquard's Obituary
Wilfred Bernard “Bill” Marquard, 76, of Avon, passed away on Tuesday February 24, 2026 at Avon Cleveland Clinic.
Born on March 22, 1949, Bill lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service. He was a devoted husband to Julia Marquard (Bowen), a proud father to Linda Marquard and a loving father-in-law to Bob Pierce. His greatest joy was being “Pop Pop” to his beloved grandson, Isreal. He is also survived by one loving brother Leo (Diane) Marquard.
He is preceded in death by his son Eric Marquard who passed in 2016, parents Wilfred B. Marquard Sr. and Dorothy Mae Marquard (nee Costello), sisters Joan Bennett, Lois Vysoky, Claire Marquard, and brothers James Marquard and Robert Marquard.
Bill worked for the Cleveland Metroparks in the Rocky River Reservation as a maintenance man, where he took pride in caring for the land and serving his community through his work. He was known for his strong work ethic and willingness to lend a helping hand.
A man of deep and unwavering faith, Bill was very active in the Cursillo movement having served on countless teams and was a dedicated member of St. Clarence Catholic Church. He served as a Eucharistic minister, assisted at funerals, and faithfully spread the Word of God wherever he went. His faith was not just something he practiced on Sundays — it was evident in the way he lived his life every day.
Bill had a gift for working with his hands. He enjoyed woodworking, fixing things for loved ones and neighbors, and tinkering in the yard. If something was broken, Bill would find a way to repair it — often making it better than before. But above all, his greatest love was being on the water, casting his line in hopes of catching the biggest walleye. Those quiet moments fishing brought him peace and joy.
Bill will be remembered for his steady presence, generous heart, and the strength of his faith. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the lives he touched, and the countless quiet acts of kindness he performed.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 10 AM Monday March 2, 2026 at St. Clarence Church, 30106 Lorain Road North Olmsted. Rev. Neil Kookoothe will be the celebrant. A reception will follow in the Terrace Room at the church.
