Walter A. Leonard's Obituary
Walter A. Leonard, age 98, of North Ridgeville, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2025 at University Hospital Elyria Medical Center.
He was born in Lorain and grew up in Avon. He had resided in North Ridgeville since 1955 after moving from Lorain.
Walter served in the US Navy for 5 and a half years during WWII.
He worked as a commercial pilot for several airlines including Buckeye Air Service, Mohican Air Service and Swift Air Charter retiring in 1993. He also worked at Fruehauf Trailer Company for 18 years as an inspector and welder.
Walter was a member of Christian Unity Church in North Eaton and United Auto Worker’s Union. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, and working on his computer.
Survivors include his sons, Glenn of Florida, Steven of Elyria, 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 20 great-great-grandchildren and sister-in-law, Barb Leonard of Texas.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nell, daughter, Jane Kilby, son, Michael Leonard, grandchildren, Steven Holland and Andrew Allen, brother, David Leonard, sisters, Leona Shank, Rosemary Green, Patricia Walko, stepsister, Carol Henson, parents, Walter and Truvie Leonard, stepmothers Florence and May Leonard.
The family will receive friends Friday, April 11, 2025 from 10AM until the time of services at 11AM at the Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville. Rev. Neal Brock will officiate. Burial will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon. AMVETS Post 32 will conduct full military honors.
