Velma Louise Smith's Obituary
Velma Louise Smith (nee Sherrill), age 89, of North Ridgeville, passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at Avon Oaks Nursing Home.
She was born in Grandview, Tennessee and had been a resident of North Ridgeville since 1945.
She worked as a manager for JoAnn Fabrics for 32years, retiring in 1990. She also had worked at Oak Ridge Atomic Plant in Tennessee and Perry Fay in Elyria.
Velma was a charter member of North Ridgeville Church of God where she was active as a Sunday School Teacher, Youth Director for 25 yrs., the Ladies Ministry and Choir. She was also involved with the outreach ministry at North Ridgeville Senior Center and was treasurer of the Senior fellowship.
Survivors include her children, Linda (Ray) Bailey of North Ridgeville, Patricia (James) Krugh of Wakeman, Marilyn Smith of Elyria, James Michael Smith of North Ridgeville; 8 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Ray Smith; parents, Grover Cleveland and Lydia Jane (nee Knox) Sherrill; great-grandson, Ben Bellisario V; siblings, Mabel Denison, Katie Lou Mashburn, Arthur, Jesse, Eula Ernestine, Floyd, Maude Coleman, Senna Ann, Howard, Andrew, and Lester.
Friends may call Monday from 12Noon until the time of services at 2PM at the Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Rd., North Ridgeville. Pastor Scott Mitchell will officiate.
Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
