Tonya L. Marcero's Obituary
Tonya L. Marcero (nee Coleman), age 69, of Elyria, passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at Mercy New Life Hospice Residential Center of St. Joseph in Lorain with her family by her side.
Tonya was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Stuart and Dorothy (nee Groening) Coleman. She was raised in Columbia Station and attended Columbia Schools. She moved to Elyria in 1967.
Tonya was a member of College Heights Baptist Church and formerly a 25 year member of Elyria Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school.
She worked at J.C. Penny and with numerous doctors in the area. She worked at St. Jude’s school in the extended day program and was employed by the Elyria City School system as a monitor of McKinley School until the onset of her illness.
A wife, mother and grandmother were the roles she cherished. She was a beautiful spirit, kind and loyal, caring for everyone whose life she touched. She loved the outdoors, camping and fishing, working in her flower garden and spending the day with her lifelong friend, Judy Faust of Elyria.
Tonya is survived by her son, Jason R. Marcero of Elyria, daughter, Tara L. Gottschling and her beloved son-in-law Stacey Gottschling of Elyria, her brother, Lawrence Coleman (Loretta) of Stow, sisters, Constance Nachman of Venice, California, Victoria Stewart (Roy) of Arizona, Colleen DiFilippo (David) of Sheffield Village and brother-in-law, Thomas O’Neill.
Most precious to her she leaves the children her grandchildren Kevin Marcero and Samantha and Spencer Gottschling, Goddaughter, Amanda L. Varga of Elyria, many nieces and nephews and Aunt Tonya’s little boy, Vincent David Varga.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of 25 years, James R. Marcero and her sister, Nancy O’Neill.
In the hearts of all the children she has ever touched she leaves a love that will never leave them, knowing always how beautiful life is and how important they are to it.
