Swancie Lee Smith's Obituary
Swancie Lee Smith, age 82, of Hillsdale (Last 5 months) and formerly of North Ridgeville, Ohio, passed away Friday, May 30, 2025. She was born April 8, 1943, in Welch, WV to Frank Moore and Violet (Sovia) Moore. She married Bobby Smith, and he preceded her in death on June 19, 2014.
Swancie grew up in West Virginia and graduated from Welch High School, Class of 1969. She and her husband moved to Lakewood, OH and eventually settled in North Ridgeville. She was a retired underwriter for St. Paul Insurance. In retirement, she continued to serve her community by volunteering at Lakewood and St. John Westshore hospitals. She also enjoyed bowling and going on trips with her senior group.
Survivors include one son, Jeff (Karlene) Smith of Hillsdale; grandchildren, Kallene (Caleb) Riddle of Jonesville, Alonda (Lester) Peight of Reedsville Pa and Levi Smith of Hillsdale; five great grandchildren with one more on the way; and sister, Connie (Barney) Jenkins of Orlando Fl.
She was preceded in death by her parents Frank Moore and Violet Burkett; bonus father, James Wiley “J.W.” Burkett; and husband, Bobby.
There will be no services or calling hours for Swancie Smith. Burial will take place at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon, OH at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale. Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of Hillsdale County or Bird Lake Christian Academy.
