Stephen Yonkof's Obituary
Stephen A. Yonkof, age 75, of North Ridgeville, died Friday at the North Ridge Health Center, North Ridgeville following a short illness.
He was born in Lafferty, Ohio and had been a resident of North Ridgeville since the 1940's moving from Avon.
Mr. Yonkof served in the US Marine Corps during World War II. He had the choice to serve in Washington DC or overseas, he chose to go overseas and served in the Honor Guard in Europe.
He was a Captain for the North Ridgeville Police Department for 24 years before he retired in 1984.
He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, North Ridgeville where he served as a Eucharistic minister, Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post 9871, North Ridgeville, Fraternal Order of Police of Ohio, Fraternal Order of Police of Cuyahoga County.
He enjoyed waterskiing, boating, gardening, fishing, hunting, working in his workshop and going to flee markets.
Survivors include his sons, Stephen Jr. Of Broadview Heights, Michael of Avon, Adam of Guilford Twp., Ohio, David of Perrysburg, Ohio; daughters, Yvonne Ottobre of Strongsville, Susan Harnish of North Ridgeville; 19 grandchildren; brothers, Joseph of Brunswick, John of Marblehead, Adam of Amherst and William of North Ridgeville.
He was preceded in death by his wife Rose (nee Slaga) Yonkof in 2002 his parents, Adam and Anna (nee Sparenga) Yonkof and brother Martin.
Friends may call Monday from 7-9 PM, and Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9PM in the David Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville. A Prayer service will be held 9:30 AM Wednesday in the funeral home followed by 10:00 AM Mass at St. Peter Catholic Church 35777 Center Ridge Road North Ridgeville. Reverend Stephen Kaminski, Pastor will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria.
The VFW Post 9871 will conduct full military honors at the graveside.
