Stephen Bartley Cooper's Obituary
Stephen Bartly Cooper, 67, passed away suddenly on Thursday, January 23, 2025.
Stephen “Steve” Cooper was born in Youngstown, OH to Ann Harriet Varble Cooper and Francis Bartly “Bart” Cooper. The first of eight children, Stephen spent his childhood living in Morristown, NJ; Luzerne, Switzerland; Luxembourg City, Luxembourg; Sao Paulo, Brazil; and Canfield, OH.
He graduated from Canfield High School in 1975 where he had played football, been the lead in several plays and musicals, and had excelled in academics. Steve attended and graduated from the school of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. and he remained a lifelong Hoyas Fan. During his career in sales, he worked in Los Angeles, Dallas, and Chicago before returning to Youngstown, where he worked with his father at Brevini Inc. After a career in Sales, Steve retired and was currently working as Security at Tyson Foods in Amherst.
He was active in the Knights of Columbus and his interests included discussing politics and foreign affairs, sports, notably basketball, photography, backpacking, and riding his motorcycle. He was also a gifted singer and guitarist.
Steve and his wife Jasmin Judy made their home in North Ridgeville, then in Elyria from 2010.
Steve was predeceased by his parents and his brother, John Christopher “Chris” Cooper.
He is survived by his wife Jasmin, two brothers and four sisters: Maria Barnes (Kevin) of Fredericksburg, VA; Philip Cooper (Wendy) of Northampton, MA; Catherine “Katie” Engelman (Don) of Long Beach, CA; JoAnn Cooper of Alexandria, VA; David Cooper (Julie) of Cincinnati, OH; and Susan Greeley of Chatham, NJ; as well as dozens of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, January 31st from 10:30am to 11:30 am at Bogner Family Funeral Home 36625 Center Ridge Rd. North Ridgeville, OH 44039.
A memorial mass will follow at St. Peter Church 35777 Center Ridge Rd, North Ridgeville, OH 44039, beginning at 12-noon. Fr. Bob Franco will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery, North Ridgeville.
