Sonia Rivas' Obituary
Sonia Rivas, age 66, of Elyria, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at Ames Family Hospice House in Westlake. She was born on September 1, 1951 in New York, New York.
Ms. Rivas was loved by everyone whom she met. She was a caring and loving nurse at Cleveland clinic and many local nursing homes. She focused her career on caring for the elderly and aging. She attended House of Praise International Church, Oberlin campus. Her passion for life shined through her love for her family, most notably her grandchildren. She also enjoyed exhibiting her artistic talents, as a member of a group of talented artists who gathered at the Elyria Recreation Center.
She is survived by her sister, Angelique Yost of Vermilion; children, Maria (Larry) Westover, Mitchell (Mindy) Rivas, and Melissa (Keith) Mortan; grandchildren, Andrew, Makenzie, Mateo, Risa, Matthew, Brayden, Malinah; longtime boyfriend, Wayne Dalton; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Maryssa (2015) and mother, Julia Diaz (2013).
Friends may call Sunday, August 26, 2018 from 6:00 PM until the time of service at 7:00 PM at House of Praise Church, 4321 Elyria Ave, Lorain, OH. Rev. Mark Hebebrand will officiate.
Interment will be Monday, August 27, 2018, 11:00 AM at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst.
