Sheila J. Collins' Obituary
Sheila Joan Collins (nee Dicken), age 82, of North
Ridgeville, passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at the Ames Family
Hospice House in Westlake. She had been
a resident of North Ridgeville for the past 17 years, having lived
previously
in Fairview Park and North Olmsted.
Sheila was born on February 7, 1935 in Larned, Kansas. She graduated as
valedictorian from Pratt
High School in Pratt, Kansas before attending Kansas State University,
graduating with a B.S. in Biology in 1957.
Sheila then went on to graduate study at the University of Arizona,
earning
an M.S. in Zoology in 1961.
It was at the University of Arizona that she met John Collins,
whom she married in 1959.
After briefly living in Texas, Sheila and John moved to the
Cleveland area in 1963 and raised their family there. She worked as a
science teacher at Magnificat
High School, retiring in 1996.
Sheila was a member of John Knox Presbyterian Church for
over 50 years, where she served in leadership roles and was an active
volunteer. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing
bridge, tennis, and golf, as well as hiking, cycling, and gardening with
John.
Sheila is survived by her husband of 58 years, John; sons
Andrew (Maria Lonczak) Collins of Cross River, New York, Stuart (Korby)
Collins
of Rocky River, and Christopher (Theresa) Collins of Evanston, Illinois;

grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; brother David Dicken of Oklahoma
City,
Oklahoma; sister Linda Mayden of Abilene, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas D. and Ada
F. (nee Hart) Dicken.
A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, February 17
at 10:00 a.m. at John Knox Presbyterian Church, 25200 Lorain Rd, North
Olmsted,
OH 44070. Rev. Tom MacMillan will
officiate. Interment will be private.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Ohio State Parks, 2045 Morse Rd, Bldg. C-3, Columbus, OH 43229-6693.
