Scott L. "Papa" Mitchell's Obituary
Scott L. Mitchell (aka Papa), age 77, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2015. He was born in Cleveland and has lived in Avon since 1996, and had been a resident of North Ridgeville for 24 years.
Scott was a 1955 graduate of Berea High School and a 1959 graduate of Miami University. He also attended Boston University for his graduate work. He was a passionate English teacher, affectionately known as Professor Mitchell, who deeply cared about his students. He taught at North Ridgeville High School for 33 years, in Massachusetts for 10 years, as well as Lorain County Community College for 2 years. Scott was a long time basketball announcer at North Ridgeville High School, coached men’s cross country in his younger days, and was the basketball announcer for Baldwin Wallace College from 2002-2011. He was a long time member of the Methodist Church.
Above all else, his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren were his life. Survivors include his wife, Irene (nee Johnston) Mitchell; son Mike (Jennifer) Mitchell of Wadsworth; daughter Sandy (Pat) Harrington of Florida; son Keith (Cindi) Mitchell of Olmsted Falls; grandchildren Kaili, Kyle, Zak and Zowie Mitchell; Danielle (Dario) Torres, Matthew Byers, Patrick and Erica Harrington; Amanda and Austin Mitchell; great grandchildren Ava and Alaina Torres; brother Bruce Smirt; niece Caprina Gates.
Friends may call Monday, April 13, 2015 from 5-8 p.m. in the Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment in Elmhurst Cemetery, Avon.
