Samuel Smiley's Obituary
Samuel Leslie Smiley, age 84 of Manning ,South Carolina, passed away Friday January 25th, 2013 at Tuomey Medical Center in Sumter, South Carolina. He was born in Reade Township, Pennsylvania and worked in the coal mines until serving in the US Army in the Korean War from 1951-1953. He was honorably discharged and moved to Ohio where he worked for the General Motors Chevy Plant in Parma for 39 years, retiring in 1991.
Samuel lived in North Ridgeville for 20 years, then moved to Litchfield in 1988. He was a member of United Auto Workers Local 1005, the LaGrange Hunting and Fishing Club, AARP, and a former member of VFW Post 9871 in North Ridgeville. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ida in 2006; infant sister Sarah; father Leslie W.; mother, Mildred; and fiancée Norma Mullins of Manning, South Carolina. Survivors include his daughters Debbie Smiley of Nederland, Colorado; Kristy Smiley of Arvada Colorado; sons Terry of Southgate, Mich.; Cory of Westlake, Ohio, seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild, sisters Camille Campbell of Canada; Sandra Reghetti of Calabash, North Carolina, and extended family members Kathi Tisdale and David Gathing of Manning, South Carolina.
The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Wednesday January 30, 2013 at Bogner Family Funeral Home 36625 Center Ridge Road North Ridgeville where services will be held 10:30 AM Thursday. Burial will be in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 10501 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, Ohio 44106.
