Russell C. Walker's Obituary
Russell C. Walker, age 87, of Spring Hill, FL, formerly of North Ridgeville, passed away
peacefully on Monday, October 27, 2025, at Oak Hill Senior Living in Brooksville, FL.
Born in Cleveland and raised in Old Brooklyn, Russell built a beautiful life centered around the
people he loved most. For over six decades, he was the devoted husband of his beloved wife,
Joann, whose memory he cherished deeply after her passing. Together, they created a warm and
loving home in North Ridgeville where they raised their three children and built countless
memories before Russell moved to Georgia and Florida to be closer to family in his later years.
Russell was a man who believed in honest work and followed his dreams with determination. In
1960, he joined Plumbers Union Local 55 as an apprentice and remained a proud member for 65
years. With his own hands, he built his dream from the ground up—a greenhouse that became a
thriving wholesale flower business. He poured his heart into nurturing those flowers while also
working as a maintenance Pipe Fitter at Ford Motor Company's Ohio Assembly Plant in Avon
Lake for 26 years, retiring in 2000.
A man of deep faith and generous spirit, Russell was an active member of Fields United
Methodist Church, where he found joy in serving others through Tuesday night suppers,
welcoming people as an usher, and sharing laughter with the Young at Heart group. He loved
good books, the soulful sounds of Jazz and Ragtime music, and spending time outdoors soaking
up the sunshine—the warmer, the better. (He never did make peace with air conditioning!)
Russell's greatest joy was his family. He leaves behind his son, Russell Scott Walker of Amherst;
two daughters, Laura Joann (Brian) Benya of Spring Hill, FL, and Lisa Marie (Scott) Bruggeman
of Woodstock, GA; and two granddaughters, Beth and Carrie Benya, who brought such light to
his life.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joann; his brother, Gary; his father, Raymond E.;
and his mother, Ethel (nee McBride) Walker.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 4, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in the Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Rd.,N. Ridgeville. Funeral Service Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Fields United Methodist Church, 34077 Lorain Rd. N.Ridgeville. (PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH.) Rev. Sondra Snode will officiate. Burial will take place in Fields Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fields United Methodist Church at www.fieldsumc.org/giving/
