Robert Oldham's Obituary
Robert R. Oldham, age 92, 2211 South VanDemark Road, died Friday morning at Wilson Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
He was born June 7, 1911 in Sidney, son of the late Harry and Nellie Oldham. He was a life long resident of Sidney.
Mr. Oldham was a graduate of Sidney High School and attended Ohio University and the University of Cincinnati.
In 1947 he founded the Robert R. Oldham General Contractor Co. Of which he operated until 1970. In 1953 he founded Robert R. Oldham Inc. manufacturing concrete products in Sidney, of which he operated until his retirement in 1989. He designed, developed and patented his own sewage treatment systems for residential and commercial use. He was a member of the National Precast Concrete Manufacturing Association. He was a former member and past president of Shelby County Home Builders Association, and was a former member of the Masonic Lodge.
Mr. Oldham was a member of North Broadway Church of Christ in Sidney.
He was active in the Republican Party in Shelby County, serving as Chairman 1956 thru 1970. Mr. Oldham served on the Shelby County Board of Elections from 1958-1972, and maintained a key interest in local, national and world politics.
He served on the board of AAA, American Automobile Association for several years. He enjoy traveling in his motor home.
He is survived by his two daughters, Mrs. Harold (Kathleen) Bogner of North Ridgeville, Ohio and Mrs. James (Lois) Rawers of Corvallis, Oregon, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren, and one sister Mrs. William (Catherine)Werst of Springfield, Ohio.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Lucinda J. "Cindy" (nee Criswell), in 1999, five brothers, Arthur, Lawrence, Oscar, William, and Harold Oldham, and one sister, Margaret Middleton.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 2-5 PM in the Cromes Funeral Home 302 South Main Street, Sidney. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday at North Broadway United Church of Christ, Sidney. Reverend Leo Senevey will officiate. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to North Broadway Church of Christ 2655 North Broadway Sidney, Ohio 45365.
