Robert W. Cox's Obituary
Robert W. Cox, age 87, of North Ridgeville passed away Saturday morning October 5, 2013 at St. John Medical Center following a long illness.
He was born in Cleveland and had resided in North Ridgeville the past 10 years. He previously lived in Rocky River and Fairview Park. He had resided most of his life in Garfield Heights.
A proud WW II US Navy Veteran, he was a member of VFW Post 9871. He was the recipient of the Asiatic Pacific Medal with 3 bronze stars, American Area Medal, and the Philippine Liberation Medal with 2 bronze stars.
Starting out as a linesman, he worked his way up to Supervisor before retiring from Ohio Bell Telephone Company in 1983 after almost 40 years on the job. He had a great passion for helping others, so he volunteered his time with the Telephone Pioneers where he served as President and Treasurer for many years. With the pioneers, He helped develop a beeping softball so that the blind could learn to play. He also worked with the Toys of Love campaign, where donated broken toys could be repaired and given to needy children.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Eleanor (nee Dvorak), son Robert A. (Susan) Cox of Brunswick, Georgia, daughters, Sally (Ronald) Soltis of North Ridgeville and Susan (Roy) Simi of Fairview Park, four grandchildren, six great grandchildren, brothers Norman (Louise) Cox of Solon and Alvin Cox of Mentor. He was preceded by his twin sister, Reba Rice, his 1st wife Gladys (nee Coradi), grandson, Rick Cox and his parents, William Cox and Ada Hannon.
The family will receive friends 4-8PM Monday at Bogner Family Funeral Home 36625 Center Ridge Rd. N. Ridgeville where services will be held 11 AM Tuesday. Sr. Kendra Bottoms SND and Deacon Jim Agrippe will co-officiate. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Westlake.
VFW Post 9871 will conduct full military honors and the gravesite.
