Richard Noll's Obituary
Richard J. "Dick" Noll, 82 of North Ridgeville passed away on Thursday, June 17, 2010 at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was born August 11, 1927 in North Ridgeville and had been a lifelong resident. He earned a BS in Industrial Engineering from Ohio University. He was a WW II U.S. Navy veteran and had been commissioned a Lieutenant JG in the Naval Reserve. Dick was managing partner in Noll Construction Co. and had also worked in insurance sales and as a construction consultant. Actively involved in politics from the time he graduated from college, he served North Ridgeville as Mayor for four terms from 1966-1970 and from 1980-1984. He had also served as Building Inspector for North Ridgeville and the Village of LaGrange. He was instrumental in both water and sewer acquisitions for North Ridgeville. He was a member of the North Ridgeville Republican Club and had received the Charles Stuart Memorial Award for his efforts on behalf of the organization. He was a charter member of the North Ridgeville Rotary Club and had been named a Paul Harris Fellow, the highest award given in Rotary. Dick was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, North Ridgeville and was also a charter member of the Knights of Columbus, North Ridgeville Council. He was also past commander of the Knights of St. John. He was a social member of VFW Post 9871, North Ridgeville and past president of the Elyria Bowling Association. Dick enjoyed golf, bowling, baseball and fast pitch softball. He was selected in 2000 for the Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame and also by Sun Newspapers as "Citizen of the Year". He was recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame Award for North Ridgeville High School in 2004. He was on the Advisory Board, Chairman and Vice Chairman of the North Ridgeville Office for Older Adults. Dick had received the "Golden Kernel Award" at the North Ridgeville Corn Festival for dedication and service to the community. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Janyce (nee Schnell), sons, James R. (Marilyn) Noll of Middletown, OH, Jack (Barbara) Noll of Christiansburg, VA, Clifford A. (Linda) Noll of Amherst and David B. Noll of Cleveland, daughter, Janet E. (David) Wessels of San Diego, CA and 5 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, George J. and Katherine R. (nee Schweda); brothers, Raymond, Bernard and George Noll; sisters, Clara Fitzpatrick and Irene Carney.
Friends may call Sunday from 2-4 & 6:30-8:30 P.M. at the David Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Rd., North Ridgeville. A prayer service will be held on Monday at 10:30 A.M. in the funeral home followed by an 11:00 A.M. Funeral Mass at St. Peter Catholic Church, 35777 Center Ridge Road. Rev. Robert Franco and Rev. Dr. Richard Gonser will concelebrate.
Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery.
