Regis Poyle's Obituary
Regis A. “Babe” Poyle, age 73, of Elyria, passed away Saturday at EMH Regional Medical Center following a short illness.
He was born in Isabella, PA and had resided in Elyria the past 50 years having moved from Lorain.
A disabled veteran, he served in the US Army from 1955-1957 as an MP. He was a life member of the AMVETS Post 47 in Lorain.
Mr. Poyle was a mail carrier for the Lorain Post Office for 28 years.
He refereed football for CYO and the Ohio High School Athletic Association and was a member of the Northern Ohio Officials Association. He was elected to the Lorain County Football Coaches Hall of Fame as a football official. He played for the 1954 St. Mary High School Football team for which he was inducted into the Lorain Sports Hall of Fame. He also coached Little League Baseball for Elyria North for many years and led the Senior League team to win the State Title in 1982.
He also enjoyed bowling and fast pitch softball.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Marjorie (nee Schroeder), two sons, Gregory (Jill) Poyle of Avon, Geoffrey (Sandra) Poyle of Strongsville, one daughter, Gina (Mike) Kelly of Avon, ten grandchildren, Max, Ryan, Jack, Rachel, Matthew, Jacob and Alexandria Poyle, Alex, Brian and Catherine Kelly, three sisters, Rose (Ron) Taylor of Amherst, Bernice “Dodie” McPhee of Amherst and Lena “Toots” Mahsonet of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Regina (nee Zellers) Poyle.
The family will receive friends Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at David Bogner Family Funeral Home 36625 Center Ridge Road North Ridgeville where a prayer service will be held 9:30 AM Tuesday followed by 10 AM Mass at St. Jude Church 590 Poplar St. Elyria. Rev. Frank Kosem, Pastor will be the celebrant.
Private interment will be in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman.
