Phillip Herne's Obituary
Phillip G. Herne age 83 of Elyria, passed away unexpectedly Monday, July 28, 2008 at MetroHealth Mediacl Center, Cleveland. He was born in Scranton, PA and lived most of his life in Pennsylvania. He has been a resident of Elyria the past 15 years moving from Duncannon, PA. He had been employed as a Civil Servant for the U.S. Government retiring in 1987 after 44 years of service. He was a W.W. II veteran having served 8 years in the U.S. Army and later retiring after 12 years of dedicated service to the U.S. Air Force. He was a Purple Heart recipient. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Amherst Post 1662. He enjoyed golf, bowling, fishing, playing cards and working number puzzles. He also enjoyed spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Linda (nee Placer), daughters, Crystal Helms of Purcellville, VA, Mary (Bill) Fraley of Laurelville, OH, Katy (Mel) Morris of Logan, OH and Tonya (Shawn) Herne-Hapanowicz of Avon, OH, a son, Kenneth (Jean) Herne of Chesapeake Beach, MD, 16 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 2 brothers John and Willard Herne both of Scranton, PA. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kim Pursel in 2005, his parents, David and Elizabeth (nee Giles), by 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Memorial services will be held at 10 A.M. Thursday July 31, 2008 at Jesus Christ Community Church 1420 S. Abbe Rd., Elyria. Pastor Gene Collings will officiate. The Amherst VFW Post will also conduct Military rites.
