Paul M. Pustay's Obituary
Paul Michael Pustay, age 83, of Vermilion, passed away Monday December 4, 2023 at Cleveland Clinic Avon Hospital.
He was born in Cleveland and grew up in North Ridgeville where he lived until moving to Vermilion in the early 1980’s when he and his wife built their dream home in Brownhelm Township.
He studied business and earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Ohio University.
Paul served in the Ohio National Guard and went on to serve in the US Army Reserves for 10 years.
He started Consultex Project Managers with his wife Darlene completing many building projects throughout the area especially in Avon, including Chester Industrial Park, Avon Wellness Center, AJ Rose, Flavor Seal, and more recently Greenlawn Professional Building in North Ridgeville. Paul built the Fathers of St. Joseph St. Leonard Youth Retreat Center, Avon donating his time and continued to support the center over the years.
Paul enjoyed spending time in Florida with his wife where he enjoyed visiting with friends and boating.
He belonged to Elyria County Club, Bonita Bay County Club and Marina, Catawba Island Club, Vermilion Boat Club. He had a special passion for classic cars, belonging to the Thunderbird Car club, the Auburn Cord and Duesenberg Club and the Classic Car Clubs of Ohio and America.
He enjoyed flying and owned his own plane tagged the “The Little Bugger”. He was an honorary member of the Ancient Order of Tailhookers having landed on the USS Lexington.
Paul had a love for music and enjoyed playing the piano.
He was instrumental and worked with the committee to save the Vermilion Water Tower.
Left to cherish his memory, are his wife of 54 years, Darlene (nee Major), brothers, Robert (Lynnea Niemeyer) Pustay of North Ridgeville and David (Tracy nee Graffius) Pustay of Vermilion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael Eugene and Evelyn Barbara (nee Laubenthal) Pustay, his mother-in-law, Louise and father-in-law Geza Major.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 AM Saturday December 9, 2023 at St. Jude Catholic Church 590 Poplar Street, Elyria where the family will receive friends from 9-10 AM. Fr. Frank Kosem and Fr. Al Laubenthal will concelebrate. Burial will follow in Rugby Cemetery on N. Ridge Road in Brownhelm Township, Vermilion.
