Until the spring of 1959 life was pretty routine for the family with 4 children living in rural land at 35968 Lorain Road. As the 7th of April came along the quiet routine was about to change. A new baby was born into our family?his name was Paul. As spring unfolded during the 10th year of my sister Lorraine?s life, her happiest memories were brought on the with this fun-loving baby boy. He was the golden boy of her life whose smile went from ear to ear. He had a big head of beautiful golden blond curls. He was a lovable, happy baby with health issues right from the start. Even so, his love of life and marvelous laughter are what showed through.
When Paul was well?we remember:
? his hearty laugh!!!
? he loved his friends and loved to joke around
? he loved Clint Eastwood movies and music?he had quite the collection
? he loved his sauerkraut and potatoes
? he was especially close to our brother John and was so sad when he left for the Marines
? Dad and Paul used to have head fights. They?d get down on their hands and knees and put their heads together and push each other with their heads. They had the big heads of the family
? he loved to be active?rock climbing, cross country skiing, hiking the Grand Canyon
A verse from the Book of Isaiah, Chapter 40, verse 31: ?But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.?
He used to run miles in his healthy days and got in shape to play football in high school.
When Paul was able to focus he gave 100% and then some.
I remember being awed at his determination in running and getting in shape.
He was an awesome swimmer
These are times we?ve forgotten because we all know Paul has had some incredibly rough years. We all have pained for him, and with him.
We are happy for Paul?s relief. Thank you Lord Jesus for taking him home to have no more pain, no more tears. ?God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.? Rev 21:4
Paul, like his mom, loved to travel and he really missed doing this.
He desired to be married, but circumstances we all know diminished this dream for Paul. He held on to it as long as he could. This was one of Paul?s biggest letdowns (I believe).
He wanted a normal life. But that wasn?t to be for Paul. The Lord sometimes works in ways we don?t understand. But ?we know that all things work together for good to them that love God.? Romans 8:28.
Jayce remembers the basketball games in the back yard. We always had a ball game at our house all summer long. Arguing over who would stop to go take care of the customer. Me and Theresa know who lost that argument 99% of the time!!
He bought his dream car, a T-top Monte Carlo. It was gorgeous, just like Paul.
Looking back, even though Paul?s personal dreams were not fully realized, and his health became the struggle of his life, we choose to remember him in his happier times before his health took away from his joy and love of life. It is these memories of him that we hope will stay with you when you think of our brother Paul. May his golden boy smile fill your soul with joy. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for blessing us with this wonderful brother.
We will miss you Paul!!
