Maria Valdez's Obituary
Maria A. Valdez, age 90, passed away at her home in North Ridgeville on September 27, 2012.
Born on March 27, 1922 in Nueva Viscaya, Philippines, she emigrated to the United States in 1968. She has lived in North Ridgeville since 2009, moving from Los Angeles, CA.
A graduate of the National Teachers College in the Philippines, Maria worked as an exemplary teacher for 20 years in the Philippines. After coming to the United States, she worked in the Medical Records Department of the St. Francis Community Hospital, in Jersey City, NJ before retiring in the mid-eighties. She continued working after retirement, donating her time after joining her sister Luz in California at the Los Angeles Learning Center Foster Grandparent Program. Not fond of sitting still, she was also a volunteer at the Wilshire Christian Manor, where she was a resident, helping with the monthly celebrations they would hold.
She had boundless energy, and rose every morning with a smile. Always striving for a strong relationship with God, she would devote time in her day to pray the Rosary and was a devout Catholic. A vibrant, giving spirit, she never hesitated to help her family and friends with anything they might need. Tending to her many plants was a personal passion which she enjoyed greatly.
Maria is survived by her sisters Rosita Valdez Cabanag of San Francisco and Luz Valdez Villanueva of North Ridgeville; nieces Cecilia Cabanag Walzer (Jon-deceased) of CA, Maria Cabanag Moscardini (Bill) of CA, Ernestine Cabanag Hanthorn (Phil) of CA and Rosalima Valdez Pham (Thuan) of North Ridgeville; nephew Bernard Valdez (Robin) of Marysville; numerous great nieces and nephews; cousins Orlando Alayu (Tessie) of CA and Maria Luisa Flores of CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents Baldomero P. Valdez and Francisca G. Alayu Valdez; brothers Baldomero Valdez Jr. and Eduardo Valdez; sister-in-law Teresita Reyes Valdez; brothers-in-law Perfecto Cabanag and Maurice Villanueva.
