Malcolm J. Mahaffey's Obituary
Malcolm J. Mahaffey, age 89, of North Ridgeville passed away Saturday November 27, 2021 at Joshua Tree Care Center, North Olmsted.
He was born in Helena, Montana and grew up in Fargo, ND. He had lived in Chicago and Parma before moving to North Ridgeville in 1971.
Malcolm served in the US Air Force stationed in Japan during the Korean War. He was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 12, Elyria.
A graduate of University of Minnesota earning a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, he went on to be a pharmaceutical representative for Dow Chemical for 26 years, retiring in 1993.
He was a longtime member of St. Peter Catholic Church where he had served as an usher.
Malcolm loved watching Ohio State, Cleveland Indians, Cavs, Browns and Ohio State games but most especially enjoyed cheering on his children and then also grandchildren at their sporting events.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Karen, sons Michael of Columbus, Kevin (Ember) Mahaffey of North Ridgeville, daughter Shannon (Edward) Griffin of Wellington, five grandchildren, Abigail, Jacob, Kyle, Ryan and Nathan, brother James (Deborah) Mahaffey of Cedar, Minnesota, nieces Richelle (Ken) Schumann, Jody (Tim) Mahaffey and nephew William (Holly) Mahaffey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Genevieve (nee Smith) Mahaffey and nephew James Mahaffey.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:30 AM Wednesday at St. Peter Catholic Church 35777 Center Ridge Road North Ridgeville, Rev. Robert Franco, Pastor will be the celebrant. Services will be livestreamed on St. Peter’s website at www.stpeternr.org and also on the Saint Peter Catholic Church Facebook page. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, where VFW Post 9871 and US Air Force will conduct full military honors.
