Leonard Phillips' Obituary
Leonard "Jake" Phillips, age 95, of North Ridgeville died Saturday evening at EMH Regional Medical Center Following a short illness.
He was born in Jobs, Ohio. He had resided in North Ridgeville the past 53 years moving from Murray City, Ohio. He retired from Fruehauf Trailer Co., Avon Lake in 1970 after 19 years. He had previously worked in the Coal Mines of Hocking County, Ohio.
He was a member of Sugar Ridge Baptist Church, North Ridgeville. The Jolly 60's, the UAW and the United Coal Miners of America.
Mr. Phillips enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Thelma L. (nee Jones), son James of North Ridgeville, two daughters, Colleen Bittner of Perry, Ohio and Ester Shumway of Lorain, 18 grandchildren, 47 great grand children and 44 great great grandchildren, two brothers, Rex Phillips of Elyira and Pearl Phillips of Murray City, two sisters, Venus Dane of Carbon Hill, Ohio and Clarice Bittner of McConnellsville, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by one son, Lester Phillips in 1995, one sister, Thelma Tomassi in 2003, and his parents, Elbert and Alice Phillips.
The family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 PM Tuesday in the David Bogner Family Funeral Home 36625 Center Ridge Road North Ridgeville. Friends may also call Wednesday from 11:00 AM until time of service at 12 Noon at Sugar Ridge Baptist Church, North Ridgeville. Reverend Bill Shomo and Reverend Michael Manosky will co-officiate. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
