Leonard Benton's Obituary
Leonard C. Benton, age 91, of North Ridgeville, passed away Friday, August 28, 2009 at Ohio Veteran's Home, Sandusky following a long illness.
He was born in Elyria and had been a resident of North Ridgeville since 1969 moving from Elyria.
Leonard served in the US Army during WWII in the European Theater.
He worked as a foreman for Thew-Koehring Company in Lorain, retiring in 1979 after 38 years.
He was a member of The Cross Community Church (formerly Assembly of God) in Elyria for nearly 70 years.
He enjoyed traveling, farming fruit trees, grapes, gardening and making Cypress wood clocks, he also built his homes in Elyria and North Ridgeville.
Survivors include daughter, Barbara ( Greig) Gemmell of Jacksonville, Florida; sons, Thomas (Janet) Benton of Apopka, Florida, Daniel (Diane) Benton of Columbia Station, James Benton of Orlando, Florida; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edythe; brothers, Alvin and LaRoice Benton; sister, Wannetta Stewart and his parents, Roy and Viola Benton.
Friends may call Monday from 6-8 PM at the David Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville and on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of services at 11:00 AM at The Cross Community Church, 525 N. Abbe Rd., Elyria. Rev. Roger Loomis, Pastor, will officiate.
Burial will be in Sugar Ridge Cemetery, North Ridgeville.
