Leon E. Cooley, age 84, of North Ridgeville, passed away Friday, May 8, 2009 at Northridge Health Center, North Ridgeville following a short illness.
He was born in Eastland, Tennessee, raised in West Virginia and had been a resident of North Ridgeville for the past 6 years moving from Ecorse, Michigan.
Mr. Cooley was in the US Army Air Corp 715th Aviation Maintenance Squadron during WW II serving in Rhineland and Central Europe.
Leon worked as a heavy equipment operator for Great Lakes Steel in Ecorse, Michigan, retiring after 35 years.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing at his cabin in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita (nee Thompson); brother, Carl Cooley of Sparta, TN; sisters, Mary and Geraldine Cooley both of North Ridgeville, Patty Lovelace of Plano, Texas; Sue Cartwright of North Ridgeville, Ruth Sarrett of Arnett, West Virginia; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Nina Cooley; brothers, Tom, Leonard, Austin and Eugene Cooley.
A private graveside service will be held in Michigan Memorial Park, Flat Rock, Michigan.
