Lawrence Smith's Obituary
Lawrence "Ray" Smith , age 78, of North Ridgeville died Friday, at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain, following a lenghty illness.
He was born in Grandview, Tennessee and been a resident of North Ridgeville for the past 58 years.
He worked as a millwright for 10 years at Stacee Manufacturing before retiring in 1990. He had also worked for Tappen, and Ford.
He served in the United States Army during WW II. He was a member of the Signal Corp while serving in the European theater.
Mr. Smith was a charter member of the Church of God, North Ridgeville; where he also had been a Sunday School teacher.
He enjoyed restoring antique cars, traveling, carpentry and coin collecting.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Velma (nee Sherrill) Smith; daughters, Linda (Kenneth) Bailey and Marilyn Smith of North Ridgeville, and Pat (Jim) Krugh of Amherst; son, Michael Smith of North Ridgeville; 8 grand-daughters and 14 great-grandchildren; brothers, Roy Smith of Grandview, TN, and Max Smith of Clarksville, TN; sisters, Betty Jennings of Little Rock, AR, and Daisy Gentry of Norcross, GA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Lycinda (nee Reed) Smith; brothers, Judd, Leon and Wallace Smith and Great-grandson Benjamin Franklin Bellisario V.
The family will receive friends 7-9 PM Monday at the David Bogner Family Funeral Home 36625 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday; at 11:00 AM, at the North Ridgeville Church of God, 6000 Lear Nagle Road, North Ridgeville.
Reverend Bishop Larry Shreffler, pastor, will officiate.
Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
