Karl Maddock's Obituary
Karl L. Maddock, 83, a regular at Gina's Place in Fairview Park, died on February 23. The son of a farmer who never owned a tractor, Karl was born in North Ridgeville. He was a grandson of Joseph Maddock, one of the Maddocks after whom the present day Maddock Road was named, Karl graduated from Ridgeville High School in 1942 and at 18, enlisted in the army. After basic training at Fort Lawton, Washington, he was shipped out, eventually to India, where he served with the 251st Port Company.
Maddock worked for 40 years in the shipping department of the B.F. Goodrich Chemical Company's Development Center in Avon Lake, retiring in 1989. For many years prior to his illness, Maddock enjoyed attending musical theater; he had seen the performances of such luminaries of the stage as Juliet Prowse, Carol Channing, and Katharine Hepburn, in productions from Hair to Rent, as well as singers such as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Vikki Carr, and Queen Latifa.
Another interest was in cars, and car design; for some years Maddock owned a gold Corvette. He was a meticulous keeper of records; every Sunday he would record the lake temperature in a pocket calender. Maddock lived in the same apartment in Rocky River until four years ago, when he was forced out by a fire.
Maddock never married. He is survived by a sister, Ethel, a brother, Richard and a long-time friend, Candace Mann; other survivors include friends, nieces and nephews. Two sisters died before him, Jean and Mildred.
Funeral services will be at 2 o'clock on Saturday, April 12th at Ridgeville Cemetery. Arrangements are being made by the David Bogner Family Funeral Home of North Ridgeville.
