June Grignon's Obituary
June Grignon of northeast Ohio, passed away peacefully at the age of 83. Jil, as she was affectionately known, graduated from Stow High School in Ohio, where she was elected homecoming queen and then attended Kent State University where she studied science and was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority. She spent several summers working at the Harborside Inn Boathouse Restaurant/Bar in beautiful Edgartown (Martha’s Vineyard), MA where she met her future husband, Bob Grignon. Jil put her studies on hold and moved to Michigan after getting married and to start a family. Jil and Bob were married 30 years. Though this relationship was not permanent, they had 4 children together, and remained friends afterwards.
Jil returned to northeast Ohio in the mid-70’s where she resided for the remainder of her life. While raising her 4 children, she rebooted her studies and career when she graduated from Lorain County Community College (LCCC) with an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science. She worked for Elyria Memorial Hospital as a Surgical Technologist for a number of years before returning to her studies at LCCC for an Associate’s Degree in Nursing. Jil worked as a registered nurse at Elyria Memorial and Amherst Hospitals until her retirement after a 30-year career of caring for others.
Jil was a kind-hearted person, caring mother and grandmother, had an openness to new perspectives, and a beautiful smile that could light up a room. In addition to being an excellent cook, she loved gardening, and had a passion for yoga and spiritual wellness. She practiced and taught yoga, enjoyed caring for pets, listening to music, socializing with friends, spending time with family and her grandchildren, and enjoyed various travels to the United Kingdom, Europe, New England, Jamaica, Hawaii, and throughout California.
Survivors include her children, Rob Grignon, Mike Grignon, Doug Grignon, and Michelle Eyink, her former spouse, Bob Grignon, 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, brother, Bruce, and brother-in-law, Frank. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Marian, sister, Claire, and sister-in-law, Carol.
A celebration of Jil’s life will be held at The Miller Nature Preserve, Orchid Room, in Avon, Ohio on Monday, August 7 at 5pm. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Lorain County Metro Parks in memory of Jil Grignon. Mail to Lorain County Metro Parks, Public Information Officer, 12882 Diagonal Road, LaGrange, OH 44050, or by phone at 440-458-5121.
