Joseph Lesnick's Obituary
Joseph John Lesnick, age 89, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away at home Monday evening, Sept 8, 2008 following a illness of 6 months.
Born Oct 21, 1918, he was a native of Wall, Pa. He moved to Ohio with Bendix Westinghouse in 1940. Joe served in the Marine Corps during WW ll. He saw action in Guam and Iwo Jima from 1941 until the end of the war. As a memento of that service, he carried a "liberty pass" in his wallet until the end of his life.
An avid golfer, he played for over 65 years and experienced a "hole-in-one" at Bob-o-link golf course in 1980. He was a member of the Bendix golf league where he worked for 41 years, and St, Julie's golf league for the last 27 years.
He enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds and observing wildlife.
Joe will be long remembered by many who have pieces of his beautiful woodworking items and furniture he created over 60 years. He made beds, desks and tables for his children, and many beautiful black walnut furniture pieces for his home. His talent on the lathe produced exquisite bowls, vases, and objects of his art. His wife and children are the grateful owners of his furniture and his reproduction of a crib seen in Williamsburg for his grandson, Christian, is a cherished piece of his very best work. The many hours spent in his "shop" satisfied the artistic side of his nature.
Joe was a member of St Julie Billiart Parish in North Ridgeville, Prime Timers, the North Ridgeville Historical Society and the VFW Post 1079 in Elyria.
Survived by his wife of 61 years, Marjorie Anne (Worcester), four children: Mark Lesnick (Nan) of Royal Oaks, CA, Susan Wollerman-Post (Robert) of Elyria, Barbara Miller (Grant) of Newark, CA. David Lesnick (Dottie) of Avon, Grandchildren: Benjamin Lesnick (Ellen), Capt. Thomas Lesnick (Capt. Kelly), Christian Miller, Hanna Miller, Bailey Botchik, Samuel Lesnick, Mary German, Mary Lou Brasee, 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
