Joseph Kandra's Obituary
Joseph P. Kandra, age 78, passed away suddenly on October 24, 2011 at his home in Elyria. Joseph was born on February 10, 1933 in Cleveland, and lived in Brookpark and North Ridgeville before settling in Elyria for the past 35 years.
After graduating high school, Joseph joined the U.S. Army, becoming a Gunnery Sergeant, stationed in Germany. Following the Army, Joseph became a painter, and owned and operated Kandra Painting, retiring in 2005.
He loved renovating homes, and even went on to build two homes. But what Joseph most loved, was spending time with his family, and his friends from the V.F.W. Post 1079 in Elyria. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 12, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Elyria Moose Lodge 778.
He is survived by his sons Joseph E. III (Colleen) of Maddox Ridge, KY, John of Elyria, Robert of Elyria, Richard (Joan) of Westlake and David (Anna) of Elyria; grandsons Jesse, Zack, Johnathan, Dustin, and Richard II; granddaughters Melissa, Theresa, Lauren, Ashley, Racheal and Emily; great-granddaughters Madison, Cambrie and Rosalie; sister Dorothy Bernstien of Fairview Park and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Anna (nee Kovach) Kandra; sister Virginia and grandson Brent Kandra.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 31, 2011 at 11:30 AM at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
