John Curtis Snyder's Obituary
John Curtis Snyder passed away November 12, 2023 at the Avon Cleveland Clinic at the age of 89.
John was born December 7, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois. A 1956 graduate of Northern Illinois University, he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. He met his wife Eileen there, and they married in Elgin, Illinois in 1957.
John enlisted in the Army and served from 1956 until 1958. After his military service he joined Marshall Field & Company and worked in the Merchandise Division in Chicago. He transferred to the Halle Brothers division in Cleveland, Ohio in 1972. In 1985 he joined Crowley Milner & Company in Dearborn, Michigan and retired in 1999.
John is survived by his wife of 66 years, Eileen; two sons, Curt (Judi) Snyder of Bay Village, Ohio; and Brad Snyder of Avon, Ohio; two daughters Jill (Jeff) Pontius of Amanda, Ohio; and Susan Craven of Westmont, Illinois. He enjoyed his 11 grandchildren, his 5 great-grandchildren and his nieces and nephews. His brother Jim, a retired dentist who lived in Spring Hill, Florida, preceded him in death.
John was a long-time member of the Dearborn Rotary Club and served as president, as well as co-chairing the 75th Anniversary of the City of Dearborn. He was active in tennis, bridge, pinochle and loved sports, especially The Ohio State Buckeyes.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Bethesda-On-The-Bay Lutheran Church in Bay Village on December 2, 2023. Visitation begins at 10:00 am followed by the Celebration of Life at 11:00. A luncheon reception will follow.
