John Rogers' Obituary
John D. "Papa John" Rogers, age 58 of Elyria, died Monday, June 11, 2007 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Avon following a long illness.
He was born January 31, 1949 in Washington, Pa. He had resided in Elyria since 1969 having moved from N. Ridgeville.
He was a decorated US Army Veteran having received the Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze stars, the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star Medal for heroism in ground combat. He had earned the rank of Sergeant.
Mr. Rogers was a member of Wellington Masonic Lodge No. 127, and the VFW Post 8686 in Sheffield Lake.
In 1990, he retired from York International in Elyria after 21 years where he was a Welding Foreman. He served as vice-president of the Lenny's Glass Company from 1992-1999
He enjoyed fishing and golfing. He also was an avid Browns and Indians fan.
Surviving are 2 sisters, Patricia Leonard of Elyria, Marsha Sherwood of Owego, NY, 2 brothers, Mark Rogers of Cander, NY and Michael Todd Rogers of Sayre, PA; step-son, Quinn Algood of Elyria, and step-grandchild, Nhya Offutt of Sheffield.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John S. and Barbara Jane Rogers.
Friends will be received from 5:00 PM until the time of service at 6:00 PM Wednesday at the David Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Road N. Ridgeville.
Rev. Orlando Algood, of the Original Church of God, Elyria will officiate.
Burial will be in Nichols, NY.
