John Mahl's Obituary
John C. Mahl, age 90, of North Ridgeville, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2009, at Golden Acres Nursing Home, Amherst Twp.
Born in New Washington, he was a resident of North Ridgeville for 59 years. He previously lived in the Clarksfield/ Wakeman area.
John served in the US Army 133rd Infantry Regiment during WWII. He was a recipient of a Bronze Star Medal and a European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 5 bronze stars, having served in the Anzio Beach Heading in Italy.
He worked for Teledyne Technology as a job setter for 17 years retiring in 1981.
He was a member of St. Peter Church, N. Ridgeville, where he was involved with the Holy Name Society and Knights of Columbus Council 7970. He was also a Life member of VFW Post 2743, Norwalk, the DAV Walter Klekota Ch. 49, Elyria, the National 34 Infantry, Red Bull Division, and the Tri-State Chapter where he served as President and Sect-Treasure. Mr. Mahl was also a Life Member of the North Ridgeville Historical Society.
He was a Jack of All Trades; enjoyed farming, woodworking and making grandfather clocks.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Mary I. (nee Walters) daughter, Marian (James) Carter of Grafton; five grandchildren, two great grandchildren; brother, Vincent (Rose) Mahl of LaGrange; sister, Lillian Paolo of Moreland Hills.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Joan Brooks; parents, Linus and Cecelia Mahl; brothers, Robert and Benjamin Mahl and sister Angela Woods.
Friends will be received 5-7 PM, Monday, August 10 at the David Bogner Family Funeral Home 36625 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville, where a prayer service will be held 9:30 AM Tuesday. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 AM at St. Peter Church.
Internment will follow in the St. Peter's Cemetery, N. Ridgeville.
The VFW Post 9871, North Ridgeville will conduct full military honors at the grave site.
