Uncle John was “larger-than-life” in my eyes when I was growing up, and beyond. Aunt Lily and he would always have us over for cookouts and to enjoy their pool and awesome yard.
During one very memorable visit when I was playing around the pool, not being the strongest of swimmers, I for some reason jumped into the deep end and when I didn’t feel the bottom with my feet, I began to panic and felt as though I was on my way towards drowning.
All of a sudden, I felt a strong arm around my waist that pulled me up and to safety. That arm was uncle John’s. He had saved
my life! I’ll be forever thankful to him. And, per the man he was, he wanted no thanks for performing such a great deed.
Thanks again, uncle John!
Rest in peace!
