Rev Helms married my husband and I 40 years ago this coming August 30th in a rented wicker gazebo in my parents back yard in LaGrange. At the last minute our Pastor backed out and said our marriage would never work! So there we were with everything planned and invitations sent and no Pastor.
We picked up the phone book and started calling Pastor after Pastor and were told "no". It being short notice and labor day weekend, and some Pastors will not do ceremonies outside of a church.
But Rev Helms said yes he would gladly do it. And he could clearly see the love we had for each other and gave us his blessing.
So thank you again for what you did for us all those years ago.
May you rest in peace.
Prayers for your family in their time of loss. May they be comforted by memories of your best days with them.

Oh the memories I have of Pastor Helms. My mom & dad are having a reunion in Heaven. I remember my dad (every time it snowed) saying "I have to go to the church to snow blow and go to Pastors house to snow blow". Man the love that man had for his family and his church. Pastor, I hope you enjoy paradise! You are home! ♥
Windall and I had revival at his church several times.
We considered them as great friends. So sad for his family but a glorious time for him. This is the day He lived and worked for all his years.
Praying for all of his family. Make plans to see him again in Heaven.
Heaven surely gained a good one. Pastor Helms married us 39 years ago. my wife went to his church in our neighborhood and we followed him when he started cathedral of life. one of the best pastors I've ever met.
There are so many that you can choose from. But one of my favorite things was to hear him sing a song that he song quite often and that song is...O What A Savior O Hallelujah.. and he would sing that song with such Gusto and anointing. And every time I hear that song Or I think of that song I hear Pastor singing that song.
There are so many of them down through the years that we have known pastor but one of my favorites was he loved to sing a song called "Oh What A Savior oh Hallelujah" every time I hear that song or every time I think of that song I hear Pastor Helms singing that song
