John Coburn's Obituary
John H. Coburn, age 69, of Avon died Thursday at University Hospital, Cleveland following a long fought battle with colon cancer.
He was born in New York City. He had resided in Avon the past 7 years, having moved from North Ridgeville where he had lived over 20 years. He previously lived most of his life in Rockaway Park, New York.
John served in the US Army and the National Guard in the early 1960's.
He received his bachelors degree in finance from Fordham University in New York City.
John was a Territory Manager for Shell Oil Co. for over 35 years retiring in 2000.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Church Avon, and the American Legion, N. Ridgeville.
Since 1994, John enjoyed being an active member of the N. Ridgeville Lions Club where he was a Past President, A Melvin Jones Fellow and was honored as Lion of the Year in 2005. He currently was serving as Zone Co-Chairman for LCIF Sight First II. which is raising funds to eradicate preventable blindness.
John also enjoyed planting flowers, reading, watching sports, studying history and debating politics.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Julie (nee Riordan), daughter Christa (Abram) Roisman of Avon, son James Coburn of Westlake, grandchildren Cassandra Roisman, Ian and Thomas Layhew both of N. Royalton, sister Margaret M. Coburn of Vero Beach, Florida, and nieces Thadda (Thomas) Layhew and Julieanna Connolly of New York City. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Kathleen Coburn.
The family will receive friends Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the David Bogner Family Funeral Home 36625 Center Ridge Rd. N. Ridgeville where a prayer service will be held 9:15 AM Tuesday followed by 10 AM Mass at Holy Trinity Church, 33601 Detroit Rd., Avon. Rev. John Misenko, Pastor will be the celebrant. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Avon.
