John Captain's Obituary
John F. Captain age 85 of Elyria passed away at his residence on July 27, 2008 following a brief illness. He was born in Duquesne, PA and lived most of his life in the Pittsburgh area. He has resided in Elyria for the past three years having moved from Ormond Beach, FL where he had lived for 20 years. He was a mechanical engineer for U.S. Steel Headquarters in Pittsburgh and he was also involved with the design of the Rod Mill at U.S. Steel in Lorain. He retired in the early 1980's. He had also worked for Westinghouse in Pittsburgh where he helped design nuclear submarines. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and had served as a bomber pilot during W.W. II. He enjoyed walking and was extremely mechanically inclined and enjoyed tinkering with and repairing things. Survivors include daughters, Carol Furst and Nancy Captain, both of Elyria and Jane (Timothy) McCarthy of Brentwood, TN, a son, John Captain of Elyria and five grandchildren, Ashley, Andrew, Allison, Michael and Kristen. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret (nee Lancaster) in June, 2008, by his parents, John and Anna (nee Danko) and by a brother, Robert. All services private.
