John Abercrombie's Obituary
John Philip Abercrombie, age 81 of North Ridgeville, died Monday, May 2, 2005 at EMH Regional Medical Center following a long illness.
He was born July 15, 1923 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He had resided in North Ridgeville since 1974 moving from Allentown, PA.
Mr. Abercrombie served in the US Marines during WW II. He participated in action against the enemy at Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands, Iwo Jima and Volcano Island. He was a member of VFW Post 9871, North Ridgeville and the Marine Rocket Squadron VMB 612 WWII.
He received his bachelors degree from The Ohio State University in Agriculture. He was the student team manager for the Ohio State Football team in 1942, then returning after WW II for 1946, 1947 and 1948 seasons. He was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity.
He was a member of Elyria Baptist Church where he was a trustee until 2003.
Mr. Abercrombie retired from Society Bank in 1990 where he had worked 12 years as a appraiser and property manager. He had previously worked as a Home Builder with Abercrombie Brothers Construction Company in Cincinnati for a number of years. He was past president of Cleveland Bank Appraiser Assoc.
He loved golfing and enjoyed coaching baseball.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years Anna E (nee Carter) daughter, JoAnn Abercrombie of Avon; 2 Sons, John Gregory Abercrombie of Fogelsville, PA, Gary Alan Abercrombie of Cary, NC; six grandchildren; and his brother, Robert Abercrombie of Mount Healthy, OH.
He was preceded his Parents, Ray and Marion Abercrombie, two sisters, Marian Wash and Dorothy Kellerman.
Friends will be received 2-4 and 7-9, Wednesday, May 4 at the David Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Road North Ridgeville. Friends may also call Thursday from 12:30 PM until time of services at 1:00 PM at Elyria Baptist Church. Rev. James Gordon, Pastor will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon, Ohio .
