Jerry Soukup's Obituary
Jerry F. Soukup, age 66, of North Ridgeville, passed away suddenly Monday, October 10, 2011.
He grew up in Garfield Hts. and had lived in Parma for 37 years before moving to North Ridgeville in 2007.
Jerry proudly served the Shaker Hts. Police Department for 27 years and earned the rank of Captain, retiring in 2001. He continued to work for the department as their training coordinator.
He was a member of St. Julie Billiart Catholic Church, North Ridgeville, Parkside Masonic Lodge # 736, and was a former member of the Blue Knights. He was past president of FOP Lodge 23 and helped start the Police Academy of Shaker Hts., where he was the 1st Commander.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and was most proud of his grandchildren. He also enjoyed classic cars, fishing and music.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Diane (nee Uridil); daughters, Elaine (Michael) Lamb of Westlake, Denise (Brian) Ellis and Kim (Michael) Moon all of Medina; grandchildren, Becca, Jackie, Hannah, Andrew and Noah; brother, Frank Soukup of Mentor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Geraldine Soukup.
Friends may call Thursday 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the David Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville. A prayer service will be held on Friday at 9:30 AM in the funeral home, followed by a 10 AM Mass at St. Julie's Church, 5500 Lear Nagle Road, North Ridgeville. Rev. Dr. Richard Gonser, Pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Avon
