Jeanne Tanko's Obituary
Jeanne M. Tanko ( nee Cummins ), 77 of Lorain, died Sunday, August 20, 2006 at EMH Regional Medical Center following a short illness.
She was born on February 11, 1929 in Lakewood, OH and resided in North Ridgeville until moving to Lorain in 1962.
Mrs. Tanko graduated from North Ridgeville High School in 1947. She was employed as a teacher and food program coordinator with Murray Ridge School, Elyria for thirty-four years, retiring in 1994. Jeanne was an involved member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Lorain and volunteered with St. Mary's, Elyria Meals for the Homeless. Mrs. Tanko was also a life member of the Elyria VFW Post 1079 Ladies' Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, cross word puzzles, traveling to Europe, playing cards, and was an avid football and tennis fan.
Surviving are her husband of twenty-two years, Robert; two sons, Dan Stockard of Willow Street, PA, and Doug Stockard of Weyauwega, WI; three step-daughters, Diane Upchurch of Cleveland, Barbara Tanko of Amherst, and Gwynn Whited of Seymour, TN; step-son, Michael Tanko of N. Royalton; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Rita Vogel of Columbus, and Janet Barr of Elyria; and her brother, James Cummins of Cartersville, GA.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Diane and Deborah Stockard; son, David Stockard; parents, John and Florence Cummins; two sisters, Betty Beckloff and Mona Vesely and brother, John F. Cummins Jr..
A memorial service will be held Saturday September 2 at 12PM at the David Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Rd., North Ridgeville with Deacon Jim Debrason of St. Anthony of Padua Church officiating. A memorial mass will be held at 5PM Saturday September 2 at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1305 E. Erie Ave., Lorain. Private interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Avon.
