Jean Gilder's Obituary
Jean C. Gilder (nee Beesing) age, 89, of North Ridgeville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born in Elyria and moved to North Ridgeville as a sophomore in high school, where she met her future husband, Bob Gilder.
In her early years, as a mother of four, she was a reporter for the Chronicle Telegram, a Secretary for the North Ridgeville Planning Commission and a bus driver for North Ridgeville City Schools. Jean continued her work as a bus driver for 28 years retiring in 1985.
She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in North Ridgeville, where she was a member of the Ladies Evening Society and the Red Hats.
Her entertainment was playing cards with friends. Over the years, she played anything from pinochle to pitch to 66.
She loved traveling in their motor home and had spent the winter season in Florida for 15 years. She enjoyed volunteering for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, rummage sales, penny gambling and camping with friends.
Survivors include her daughters, Marcia (Marty) Orcutt of Lisbon, Connecticut, Nancy Gilder of North Ridgeville; son, Jim (Betsy) Gilder of Westfield Center; daughter-in-law, Debbie Gilder of Amherst; grandchildren, Matthew (Ali), Jason, Gretchen (Mike); great-grandchildren, Rachel and Emily.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Gilder in 2012’ son, Gregg; brother, Jerry Beesing; parents, Rolland and Estelle (nee Popa) Beesing.
A Memorial Service will be held 11 AM Saturday May 7th at First Congregational United Church of Christ where a reception will immediately follow in the fellowship hall. Private inurnment will take place with her husband at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman.
