James Wood's Obituary
James E. Wood, age 76, of North Ridgeville, passed away on September 2, 2013 at his home after a lengthy illness.
James was born on August 3, 1937 in Cleveland and has lived in North Ridgeville for the past 19 years, moving from Lorain. He served in the United States Air Force Reserves and worked as a Human Resources Manager at ATE Lighting for 10 years, retiring in 2008. James was a very active member of Fields United Methodist Church in North Ridgeville, where he was on the Welcoming Committee, acted as a Lay Leader and sang in the church choir.
James was a family man and spending time with his family is what he loved most in life, especially his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed taking long walks, doing his yard work and gardening. An avid fan, he was often watching sports, with the Cleveland Browns and Indians being his favorite teams. He also acted as an Indian Guide Leader.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Annette (nee Ogle); sons Russell Wood of San Francisco, CA, Scott Wood of Lorain; daughter Dawn (William) Jewell of Vermilion; grandchildren Bryanna Rivers, Brian, Megan and Jillian Wood, Jared (Cassie) Jewell and Ashley (Anthony) Perez; great grandchildren Savannah and Alyssa Jewell, Kally Perez and Kelsey Castaneda; step mother Clara LaTour; brothers John (Susan) Wood of CA and Michael (Kathryn) LaTour of Ithaca, NY; many nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his parents Frank LaTour and Ruth (nee Hemeyer) Wood; sister Ruthann Bott.
Memorial Service Saturday, September 14, at 11:00 a.m. at Fields United Methodist Church, 34077 Lorain Rd., North Ridgeville 44039, where visitation will be held for one hour prior to services. Rev. Dr. Tom Joyce will officiate. Interment private. Family request donations in Jim's name to Fields United Methodist Church or Hospice Services of Southwest General.
