James Tompkins' Obituary
James L. Tompkins, age 72, of North Ridgeville, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2012 at New Life Hospice Residential Center, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Crossville, Tennessee and had been a resident of North Ridgeville for the past 70 years.
James worked as a machine operator at the General Motors Chevy Parma Plant for over 39 years, retiring in 1998.
He loved to vacation in Gulf Shores, Alabama, travel, cook, work outdoors, garden, was an avid NASCAR fan and a loyal member of United Auto Workers.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Linda; son, James Jr. of Phoenix, Arizona; daughter, Sue (John) Smink of Elyria; step-daughters, Sue (Allen) Gillard of Ft. Myers, Florida, Debra (Dan) Wade and Theresa Workman both of North Ridgeville; step-sons, Pete (Judy) Workman of North Ridgeville, Jimmy (Connie) Workman of Columbia Station; grandchildren, Eric, Hayden, Brennan, Lauren, Cole, Brad, Bobby, Terry, Daniel, David, Dustin, Brian, Ryan, Adam, Jeremy, Sheri and James and many great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Clara and William Tompkins and sister, Norma Jean Hanchosky.
Friends may call Sunday from 2-6 PM at the Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Rd., N. Ridgeville. Services will be held on 11 AM Monday in the funeral home.
Pastor Ray Carpenter and Pastor Terry McGovern will co-officiate.
